A rugged, whitewater river flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. New River Gorge National River in West Virginia encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River, is rich in cultural and natural history, and offers an abundance of scenic and recreational opportunities.
Due to the federal government shutdown, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will postpone an October 16 lease sale that would have offered 17 parcels totaling 5,554 acres on public land administered by the BLM in New Mexico. The lease sale was scheduled to take place at the BLM's office in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The BLM had a total of 31 lease sales scheduled for calendar year 2013 with 22 held prior to the lapse in appropriations. Total receipts from these 22 sales were $178,215,437.
