Human Capital & Diversity:   Human Capital and Diversity is responsible for the coordination of the equal employment, federally-assisted and -conducted, special emphasis, and affirmative employment activities and programs. The Assistant Secretary serves as the Chief Human Capital Officer and the Designated Agency Safety and Health Officer. The Office oversees Departmentwide human capital programs, employee training and development, and employee health and safety. The Assistant Secretary’s Office is working to improve the Department’s recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce, increase employment of veterans and person with disabilities,bring about hiring reforms to support workforce and succession planning, shorten timeframes for hiring and achieve more effective results, improve leadership and management competencies, enrich and improve employee wellness and employee engagement, and improve the Department’s compliance with Equal Employment Commission and Department of Justice regulatory requirements related to equal opportunity and access complaint processing and reporting.
