USVI Hurricane Recovery

The Secretary and the Assistant Secretary for Insular Areas applaud and support the efforts of President Donald J. Trump, the White House and FEMA in ensuring that U.S. Virgin Islanders receive the assistance and support needed to recover from recent catastrophic hurricane impacts.  The Secretary and the Assistant Secretary for Insular Areas have also pledged their support to Governor Kenneth Mapp towards recovery efforts.

In continuing efforts for recovery following recent Hurricanes Irma and Maria in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) as member of the Department of the Interior's Emergency Management Council which includes all Bureaus and Offices, continues to provide critical information to the Secretary and to FEMA.  OIA has directed numerous inquiries to FEMA and related disaster coordinating efforts in support of the federal government's continued life-saving activities for the U.S. Virgin Islands in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, all in accordance with the Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5121-5207.
