A rugged, whitewater river flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. New River Gorge National River in West Virginia encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River, is rich in cultural and natural history, and offers an abundance of scenic and recreational opportunities.
Protect public health and the environment relative to uses and activities on Department lands and facilities;
Conduct hazardous material cleanup activities and the subsequent maintenance and monitoring of the remedial actions in a manner consistent with the National Contingency Plan (NCP) and with bureau land use and management plan objectives; and
Pursue aggressive cost recovery and cost-sharing actions with the parties responsible for contaminating Federal land.
