Larry Ruffin is the Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Chief Information Security Officer, charged with carrying out the DOI Chief Information Officer’s Information Assurance (IA) program responsibilities in delivering an IT Security and Privacy Program for implementation by senior agency officials in accordance with Federal laws, policies, standards, guidelines and best practices.  Mr. Ruffin also serves as the Director of the Information Assurance Division within the Office of the Chief Information Officer.  In this role, Mr. Ruffin leads an organization that is charged with the following responsibilities: agency-wide Information Technology (IT) Security and Privacy policy formulation; establishing privacy and enterprise security architecture standards; managing the enterprise-wide IA operations, capabilities and services; providing IT risk management support services; delivering IT security awareness and role-based training; and overseeing Cybersecurity and Privacy program implementation and activities across Interior’s Bureaus/Offices to help ensure compliance with the Federal Information Security Modernization Act, the Privacy Act, Office of Management and Budget requirements, agency policy, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology standards and guidelines.  Mr. Ruffin joined DOI in 2005 after previous federal service at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, United States Trustee Program and Naval Research Laboratory. Mr. Ruffin also served six years with the U.S. Navy.
