Deputy Secretary Scarlett Joins Take Pride in America® for
C & O Canal National Historic Park Cleanup

Washington, DC Deputy Secretary Lynn Scarlett will participate in a Take Pride in America® cleanup volunteer project at the C & O Canal National Historical Park, Saturday, May 3 at 8:30 a.m. In addition, Deputy Secretary Scarlett will honor an outstanding volunteer with the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The cleanup is being held in celebration of National Volunteer Week, and is the final stop on Take Pride in America and Toyota’s “VolunTour Across America,” a nationwide trip promoting volunteerism on public lands.

Carderock Pavilion

Directions From Downtown DC:

  • Take Pennsylvania Ave NW
  • Bear LEFT (West) onto M St NW
  • Turn LEFT (South) onto US-29 [Francis Scott Key Bridge]
  • Turn RIGHT (West) onto Ramp and Continue (West) on George Washington Memorial Pkwy [GW Pkwy]
  • Merge onto I-495 [I-495 Innerloop] (North) toward Maryland
  • As you cross the bridge over the Potomac get in right lane
  • Take Clara Barton Parkway exit ramp and bear left (west) toward Carderock
  • As you get close to the exit, you will see the Naval Training Center, which is a dome-like structure on your right side
  • Take the Carderock exit off Clara Barton and turn left at stop sign
  • Go back over Parkwy and follow Carderock signs down into park going through tunnel
  • At stop sign, turn left and park in the parking lot. From the parking lot the pavillion is visible.

Directions From VA :

  • Take I-495 (west/north) to Maryland
  • As you cross the bridge over the Potomac get in far right lane
  • Take Clara Barton Parkway exit ramp and immediately bear left (west) toward Carderock
  • As you get close to the exit, you will see the Naval Training Center, which is a dome-like structure on your right side
  • Take the Carderock exit off Clara Barton and turn left at stop sign
  • Go back over Parkwy and follow Carderock signs down into park going through tunnel
  • At stop sign, turn left and park in the parking lot. From the parking lot the pavillion is visible.

Directions From MD :

  • Take I 495 (west/south) to Virginia
  • Take the Clara Barton Parkway exit (should see a sign for Carderock/Great Falls)
  • Bear RIGHT (West) onto Clara Barton Pkwy
  • As you get close to the exit, you will see the Naval Training Center, which is a dome-like structure on your right side
  • Take the Carderock exit off Clara Barton and turn left at stop sign
  • Go back over Parkwy and follow Carderock signs down into park going through tunnel
  • At stop sign, turn left and park in the parking lot. From the parking lot the pavillion is visible.
