WASHINGTON, DC –Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will visit Cabrillo National Monument at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2007 to take part in Junior Ranger activities and help swear in new local Junior Rangers.
Secretary Kempthorne will be joined at the monument by students from the Children’s Conservation Academy. The students will complete activities designed to help them fulfill the requirements of the National Park Service Junior Ranger Program before they are sworn in by the Secretary.
The Secretary will be available to answer questions during the Junior Ranger activities and following the swearing-in ceremony.
Secretary Kempthorne’s visit to Cabrillo National Monument comes as part of National Park Week, an annual, Presidentially proclaimed week for celebration and recognition of the country’s 391 National Parks. Parks across the country will be hosting events throughout the week from hikes, to picnics, to family and kids days, culminating in National Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, April 28.
