Secretary Kempthorne to Visit San Francisco Maritime
National Historical Park and the Headlands Institute

Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will visit San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and the Headlands Institute in San Francisco, Calif. on Thursday, April 26, 2007.

Secretary Kempthorne will tour both facilities with local school children from across the Bay Area as part of National Park Week and in advance of National Junior Ranger Day on Saturday.

The Secretary will be available to answer questions at both locations.

Located in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park captures the sights, sounds, and smells of Pacific coast maritime history, including tours of a 19th century sailing ship.

Located in Golden Gate National Recreation Area the Headlands Institute provides residential environmental science education for students and educators, teen leadership programs, and summer day camps for kids.

National Park Week is an annual, Presidentially proclaimed week for celebration and recognition of the country’s 391 National Parks. Parks across the country will be hosting events throughout the week from hikes, to picnics, to family and kids days, culminating in National Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, April 28.
