MEDIA ADVISORY Interior Secretary to Sign Update of North American Waterfowl Management Plan, Announce $2.65 Million in Funding for Wetlands Conservation Projects in Maine |
(NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine) -- Interior Secretary Gale Norton will hold a press conference on Wednesday, Oct. 6 to sign the 2004 update of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan, reaffirming the U.S.'s commitment to this continental conservation plan with Canada and Mexico. Norton also will announce that the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission recently awarded $2.65 million in funding under the North American Wetlands Conservation Act for the Downeast Lakes Forestry Partnership, Greater Pleasant Bay Area, and Maine Forest Ecosystem projects in Maine. These projects will protect more than 800,000 acres to benefit wildlife. The projects' partners have dedicated an additional $54.7 million for these conservation efforts.
