The Department
of the Interior has been honored for its outstanding Enterprise Architecture
Program that guides the modernization of Interior's business operations
to provide more cost-efficient, citizen-centered service to the nation.
The E-Gov Institute awarded
Interior the Excellence in Enterprise Architecture Award in the category
of Federal Civilian Leadership in Government Transformation. Hord Tipton,
Interior's chief information officer, and Colleen Coggins, chief architect,
accepted the award on behalf of the department at a Sept. 22 ceremony
in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington,
D.C.
The honor recognizes the
department for its Enterprise Architecture Program, which developed
modernization blueprints for key Interior lines of business, such as
Wildland Fire, Recreation, Law Enforcement and Financial Management.
The Enterprise Architecture Program provides a roadmap for leveraging
information technology to meet strategic and programmatic goals and
objectives efficiently and effectively.
When implemented, the modernization
will improve data sharing, reduce system redundancies, and result in
cost savings and improved services to citizens. Key customers of the
Interior Enterprise Architecture Program are the public, Interior's
business partners, executives and managers. More information on the
award is on the Interior Enterprise Architecture Program website at
