Secretary Norton to Underscore Success of Healthy Forests Initiatives at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge in Washington State

 

(WASHINGTON) - Interior Secretary Gale Norton will visit Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge in Cheney, Wash., tomorrow to highlight a number of successful Healthy Forests Initiative projects at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife site.

The refuge is carrying out a number of forest-management activities, including hazardous fuel reduction projects under the National Fire Plan and Healthy Forests Initiative. The visit includes meeting refuge staff, members of the Friends of Turnbull organization and representatives of other refuge partner groups.

Norton will tour the refuge, make brief remarks at the refuge headquarters and meet with news media to discuss Interior forestry and land restoration activities at Turnbull and in Washington state.
