Laser Cleaning at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial: A Test Case and Evaluation
Over the last decade, the dome of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial has become rapidly and visibly soiled by biofilm. A multi-disciplinary
team of professionals has been studying the growth since 2014 to determine the best options for removing it. In 2017, the first test cleaning of the dome was suc cessfully performed using laser technology, specifically designed for heritage preservation.
