Sioux Indian Museum Announces Winners of 2018 Youth Art Contest

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA: The Sioux Indian Museum, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB), will feature an exhibit of artwork from the 2018 Youth Art Contest sponsored by the IACB.  The exhibit will be on view from May 2 through June 8, 2018.  The annual competition provides Indian youth with a realistic juried art show experience; encourages the development and expansion of their skills in production and marketing; and enhances youth interest in culture, history, and the possibility of an artistic career.  Submissions of work were judged by an independent panel of jurors.  Awards will be distributed in the amount of $250 for first place, $150 for second place, and $100 for third place. 

The winners of the contest are as follows:

1st Place, Messages from our Grandfathers and Grandmothers, Cleo White Face (Rosebud Sioux), Mixed Media on Canvas








2nd Place, Iktomi and the Ducks, Jordan Spotted Calf (Rosebud Sioux), Colored Pencils on Ledger Paper







3rd Place, Swingin’, Arlene Iron Hawk (Rosebud Sioux), Acrylic on Paper
