A rugged, whitewater river flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. New River Gorge National River in West Virginia encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River, is rich in cultural and natural history, and offers an abundance of scenic and recreational opportunities.

David Helweg, Pacific Islands Climate Science Center Interim Director, and Stephen Anthony, USGS Pacific Islands Water Science Center Director, attended the Water Sustainability Forum hosted by United States Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) on August 19, 2013 in Honolulu, HI.
This forum focused on current and future water supply and management issues and included a variety of perspectives on Hawaii's water availability. Participants examined the projected impacts of climate change and federal resources to support water management in Hawaii. In convening this discussion, Senator Schatz aimed to ensure that his legislative priorities are supportive of Hawaii's most urgent needs and to ensure that policymakers in Hawaii are aware of relevant federal resources.
