A rugged, whitewater river flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. New River Gorge National River in West Virginia encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River, is rich in cultural and natural history, and offers an abundance of scenic and recreational opportunities.
DOINews: Joint Western Alaska LCC and Alaska CSC Projects Featured in Senate Testimony
Last Friday, September 13th, Senator Mark Begich held a hearing in Anchorage, Alaska on "Extreme Weather in Alaska: State and Federal Response to Imminent Disasters in the Arctic". The hearing featured testimony by Dr. Thomas Ravens from the University of Alaska Anchorage, whose work is funded by the Western Alaska LCC and the Alaska Climate Science Center (AK CSC). Dr. Ravens discussed his research aimed at understanding and predicting the impacts of coastal storms under a changing climate. These WALCC and AK CSC projects are receiving wide attention because of their connection to coastal communities, as well as for their value in addressing resource management questions.
