DOI Contracted UAS Locates Spot Fires, Directs Firefighters to Extinguish, Prevents Spread

Data product from the ongoing Taylor Creek Fire. Illustrates the utility of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) to conduct all-hour, persistent reconnaissance of wildfire perimeters, provide strategic situational awareness, locate hidden spot fires and direct firefighters to their location before they have a chance to grow larger/start new, undetected wildfires.

Launched from and recovered within the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the fire and flown beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) in accordance with the 2015 FAA-DOI MOU
