Rachel Jacobson - Acting Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks

Secretary Salazar has named Interior’s Principal Deputy Solicitor, Rachel Jacobson, to serve as Acting Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks. As Acting Assistant Secretary, Jacobson will oversee and coordinate policy decisions for the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Jacobson has served as Principal Deputy Solicitor since 2009 and will return to the position when a nominee for Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks has been confirmed by the Senate. As Principal Deputy Solicitor, Jacobson has helped lead DOI’s work on natural resource damage issues related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, including the negotiation of a $1 billion early restoration agreement with BP. Jacobson has more than 23 years of career federal service with the Department of Justice, where she developed significant expertise in environmental law with a specialty in natural resource damages, and eighteen months as a Program Director for a federally chartered conservation foundation promoting effective environmental stewardship.
