Eastern Gulf of Mexico Map
The Department of the Interior will work with Congress to determine how we might open new areas in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico that are currently under Congressional moratorium. Under this plan, we would be opening up approximately 2/3 of the available oil and gas resource in the Eastern Gulf, while protecting military training in the area and keeping drilling activities at least 125 miles off the Florida Coast. In the Eastern Gulf alone, we would be opening four times more area for leasing than was opened in the entire eight years of the previous Administration.
