Recruiting Statement for Secondary FF/LEO Positions

The following statements are suggested to be included in vacancy announcements/recruiting documents for secondary:

Secondary position recruitment must include the requirement for specialized experience equivalent to that received in a primary position. (This includes any recruitment announcement, and requests for eligibles such as an SF-39.)

Typical statement for recruitment announcements is:

"Prior experience in wildland firefighting (for firefighter positions); or investigation, apprehension, or detention of individuals suspected or convicted of violating criminal laws of the United States (for law enforcement positions) is required in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position."

The following is suggested wording that may be used in the GENERAL NOTES SECTION of vacancy announcements/recruiting documents for secondary law enforcement and firefighter positions:

"This position is covered as a Secondary-Administrative Law Enforcement position (or Firefighter position, as appropriate) under the special retirement program for firefighters and law enforcement officers."

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants may meet position qualification requirements, but not meet special retirement coverage eligibility. If such an applicant is selected, he/she will be placed in the regular retirement code.
