No permits to be issued for 2024 Berners Bay Federal subsistence moose season

Juneau Alaska, May 9, 2024 – Juneau District Ranger, Michael Downs, has announced that no moose permits will be available for the 2024 Federal subsistence moose season in Berners Bay. Based on recent surveys by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), the abundance of harvestable moose within the Berners Bay drainage is too low to provide for a hunt in 2024. No permits have been issued for the ADF&G drawing hunt (DM041) or for the Federal subsistence hunt. The number of permits in future years will be determined from the results of further surveys conducted by ADF&G.

For additional information, please contact Juneau District Ranger Michael Downs at 907-789-6244 or Tongass Subsistence Program Manager Robert Cross at 907-723-8653.
