The Federal Subsistence Board Closes Federal Public Lands in Unit 6 to the Harvest of Antlerless Deer
The Federal Subsistence Board will close Federal public lands in Unit 6 to the harvest of antlerless deer by federally qualified subsistence users, effective at 11:59 p.m. on November 1, 2013. This action is due to conservation concerns. The severe winter of 2011/2012 resulted in a mortality rate of 50%-70% in the Prince William Sound deer population. This closure will reduce the hunting mortality of female deer and aid population recovery.
The State issued Emergency Order No. 02-06-13 on October 2, 2013, to close the State of Alaska resident and nonresident doe deer season in Unit 6, effective at 11:59 p.m. on October 31, 2013. On November 1 antlerless deer may be taken on Federal lands but not on State lands.
