This session will provide information about the role of customary and traditional use determinations and the Section 804 of Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) prioritization process in the Federal Subsistence Management Program. We will discuss the intent, purpose and processes associated with identifying rural Alaskan subsistence uses that are protected by the Federal subsistence priority on Federal public lands. We will also explore how uses and users are prioritized in times of shortage or to ensure the continuation of subsistence uses.
