Earthquake Damage

The primary obligation for Emergency Support Function (ESF) #11 Protection of Natural and Cultural Resources and Historic Properties (NCH) is to protect NCH resources in times of disaster and national emergency.

ESF #11 NCH works by sending volunteer responders from the Department of the Interior (DOI), or volunteer responders from one of our partner government agencies or organizations into areas covered by a presidentially declared disaster that have a legitimate need for response help in stabilizing and preserving NCH resources.

Working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and affected State, Tribal, Territorial, and Local Governments, DOI and its partners determine the type of expertise needed in the disaster area and dispatch personnel from the Department who have the experience and knowledge to respond to the specific needs requested.
