Subject: Reimbursement for Use of Privately-Owned Conveyances
         (FTR Amendment 2008-05; FTR Case 2008-304)
         
Attached is a copy of pages 43627 and 43628, Federal Register, Volume 73, No. 145, dated
Monday, July 28, 2008, which contains Amendment 2008-05 to the Federal Travel Regulation
(FTR).

Amendment 2008-05, changes 41 CFR Part 301-10.303 to increase the mileage reimbursement
rate from 50.5 cents per mile to 58.5 cents per mile for use of a privately-owned automobile,
when authorized as advantageous to the Government. The increased rate is effective for travel
performed on or after August 1, 2008.

This amendment also increases the mileage reimbursement for privately-owned motorcycles
from 30.5 per mile to 58.5 cents per mile and the mileage reimbursement for privately-owned
airplanes from $1.07 to $1.26 per mile.

The lower tiered reimbursement rates based on availability of a GOV remains unchanged.

The rates for the use of privately-owned vehicles, as of August 1, 2008 are as follows:
• Airplane ... $1.26 per mile
• Automobile...
o 58.5 cents per mile (if no Government-Owned Vehicle available)
o 28.5 cents per mile (if Government-Owned Vehicle available)
o 12.5 cents per mile (if Government-Owned Vehicle is directly assigned to the
employee; employee is committed to the use of GOV)
• Motorcycle ... 58.5 cents per mile
