Planning - Implementing Guidance
The purpose of this Financial Administration Memorandum (FAM) is to provide implementing
guidance for travel-related conference planning in accordance with Departmental Policy and
Amendment 89 to the Federal Travel Regulation (41 CFR Part 301-74 and Appendix E to Chapter
301; hereafter referred to as "FTR"). The FTR:
- establishes a new method of determining the maximum allowable lodging allowance for employees
attending conferences and meetings;
- authorizes agencies to provide light refreshments to conference and meeting attendees under
certain circumstances; and
- provides detailed guidance on conference planning.
The Departmental policy for Conferences and Meetings Involving Travel is provided as
Attachment 1. Attachment 2 contains the General Services Administration's frequently asked
questions (FAQs) on the topic of conference planning. All of the related documents on this
subject will be posted on Interior's website and linked to the FTR. The website is:
