Announcement and Call for Nominations 2013 Secretary’s Partnerships in Conservation Awards

The Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Office of Youth, Partnerships and Service (YPS) is excited to announce the call for nominations for the Secretary’s 2013 Partners in Conservation (PIC) Awards. The 2013 PIC Awards will recognize exemplary collaborations between DOI, our Bureaus and organizations across the country that take innovative approaches towards conservation of America’s public lands and resources. This page provides general information on eligibility, award criteria, how to submit nominations for the awards, and who to contact to obtain a nomination form and answer your questions regarding the nomination and award process.

Eligibility

Partnerships with substantial performance in Fiscal Year 2013 (October 1, 2012 through September 30, 2013) and ongoing are eligible for the 2013 PIC Awards. Eligible partnerships include those between and/or among DOI Bureaus, as well as partnerships with outside entities, including Federal, State, local, and tribal governments, private for-profit and nonprofit institutions, and other non-governmental organizations and individuals.

Awards Criteria:

The 2013 PIC Awards will recognize partnerships that: (1) advance DOI strategic goals; (2) exemplify innovation or best practices for collaborative partnerships; (3) build capacity for current and future partnerships as well as conservation sustainability; (4) advance Departmental and Bureau/Director policies, priorities and special initiatives including engaging youth and veterans, underserved communities and diverse populations, or advance these policies on public lands, tribal lands and in urban areas; (5) has national significance and/or interest; and (6) impact management of natural resources, the local community, and the public in general.

Call for Nominations Period:

The Call for Nominations will be open from June 15th, 2013 through August 2nd, 2013. Each DOI Bureau will review the submitted entries and select up to five (5) nominated partnerships to submit to DOI for final consideration for award by COB September 13, 2013.

How to Nominate a Partnership:

To nominate a partnership, simply contact your Bureau PIC Representative (contact information is provided below) to request a Call for Nomination Form. Bureau Nominator(s) and their partner organization representatives are encouraged to collaborate on preparing the Nomination Form and optional Supporting Materials, which must be completed and submitted electronically in PDF format to your Bureau PIC Representative by COB August 2nd, 2013. Detailed submittal instructions are provided in the Call for Nomination Form.
