OIA Funds GUAM Education, Health And Single Audit Reporting

Guam (March 15, 2012) - The Department of the Interior's Assistant Secretary for Insular Areas, Tony Babauta, has authorized Technical Assistance (TA) grants in the amount of  $424,455 for the purchase of 3 new ambulances for the Guam Fire Department, $150,000 in funding for the Guam Department of Administration's Fixed Assets System Upgrade Project and $142,095 to support the Guam Community College (GCC) in implementing the Classroom Instruction that Works and Teaching Without Textbooks projects.

"I am pleased Guam is working closely with Congress to address concerns and improve the island's emergency response capacity to meet the anticipated needs of the military realignment. I also wish to commend the leadership of President Mary Okada at GCC for her role in enhancing the quality of the education available to Guam's students," said Babauta.

Funding will assist the Guam Fire Department in providing adequate emergency medical services to Guam's residents and visitors. The Guam Department of Administration's Fixed Assets System Upgrade Project will assist the Department in meeting Federal Equipment and Real Property requirements which have been a repeat finding on annual Single Audits since 1997.  GCC's project will enhance the instructional skills of Guam's teachers as well as provide them with modern, digital resources.
