Washington, D.C. (February 25, 2009)  - On Wednesday, February 25, over one hundred students and their teachers from American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands visited the Department of the Interior's Office of Insular Affairs under the auspices of the Close-Up Foundation. Including visits to Washington, New York, Philadelphia and Williamsburg, this trip is part of a series of civic-education programs conducted by the non-profit Close-Up Foundation under a technical assistance grant from the Department of Interior's Office of Insular Affairs.

The students also met with their respective Members of Congress or Ambassadors and other officials as well as attended workshops, seminars and toured the Nation's capital. The students also had the opportunity to meet with other Close-Up participants from the mainland United States.

Students from the United States Virgin Islands also participate in the same program but travel to Washington, D.C. on a different timetable.
