JEMFAC meet on September 3 in Honolulu, Hawaii

The annual bilateral meetings between the U.S. and the Marshall Islands through the Joint Economic Management and Financial Accountability Committee (JEMFAC) met on September 3 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and approved over $27 million in Compact sector grant funding for the Marshall Islands.

The Director of Insular Affairs, Nikolao Pula, chaired the meetings on behalf of the U.S. Government along with Alcy Frelick of the Department of State and Dr. Nadine Gracia of Health and Human Services. Chief Secretary of the Marshall Islands Casten Nemra and Kino Kabua Secretary of Foreign Affairs represented the Marshall Islands. Both sides were accompanied by staff members.

In conjunction with the JEMFAC, a quarterly committee meeting for the Trust Fund for the People of the Marshall Islands was held. The U.S. and Marshall Islands JEMFAC board members also sit on the Trust Fund Board. Taiwan, as a contributing member to the Trust Fund, was represented by Mr. Matthew S. Lee, Director-General of the Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
