Former CNMI Governor Guerrero Passes Away
(Saipan, CNMI, Friday, October 6, 2006) Former Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Governor Lorenzo I. De Leon Guerrero passed away on October 6, 2006 after a long and lingering illness. He was 71. Guerrero, a Republican, was the third Governor of the Commonwealth and served from 1990 to 1994. He also served as the first president of the CNMI Senate from 1978 to 1980 and president of the first Constitutional Convention in 1977.
Deputy Assistant Secretary David B. Cohen sent a condolence letter on behalf of the Department of Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs.
A state funeral will be held in the CNMI before he is laid to rest on Friday, October 13.
De Leon Guerrero is survived by his wife, Matilde Villagomez De Leon Guerrero, 10 children and about 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
