OIA PRESS RELEASETwo FSM Soldiers Die – One in Iraq and One at Fort Hood
(Washington, D.C., October 10, 2006) The Federated States of Micronesia will be mourning at two military funerals this month as two soldiers, one each from Pohnpei and Yap State, died recently. U.S. Army Private First Class Henry Paul, 24, of Kolonia, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia, died on September 26, 2006, in Baghdad, Iraq. U.S. Army Private First Class Glen H. Nery of Ulithi, Yap, Federated States of Micronesia died at Fort Hood, Texas on September 23, 2006. In a condolence letter to the families of the slain, David B. Cohen expressed to the parents that their sons were a credit to them and the islands they called home. “Their service and sacrifice is also a source of pride for the people of the Federated States of Micronesia and the rest of the Pacific, and a cause for deep gratitude by the people of the United States of America,” David’s letters concluded. Private First Class Paul is the third US soldier from the Federated States of Micronesia to die in Iraq in the global war on terrorism. The other two soldiers from the FSM to die in Iraq were Army Sergeant Skipper Soram of Pohnpei and Army Staff Sergeant Steven G. Bayou of Yap. The two deaths this week bring the total number of FSM citizens who have died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces to a total of 6.
