(Nov. 3, Noon, 2005) - Dr. Mike Cruz is now more than a senator and a surgeon; he's also a recognized war hero.

Today, the Republican senator received a Bronze Star for his service in Iraq. Cruz is a colonel in Guam Army National Guard and spent four months operating on injured people in Baghdad.

While he was in Iraq, Cruz operated on up to 16 patients a day. Among his patients were a Time news reporter and photographer who were injured while covering the war in Iraq. Cruz was also the officer-in-charge of the Rapid Action Medical team. He also helped coordinate the first-ever international medical conference for Iraq.
