Before You Report
Welcome to the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and congratulations on your employment with us! We look forward to working with you and are happy that you have decided to make us your employer of choice. Just a few things before you come on board:
- Once you have received your official offer letter from Interior Business Center (IBC) HR, please ensure that you read it over thoroughly and follow the instructions. There is information in regards to forms and training that are required for DOI network access. Once you have completed your training and paperwork, please submit it as soon as possible to the designated contact.
- You will receive a welcome email from OCIO Human Capital Office (HCO). The email will contain additional information, instruction, and paperwork. Please be sure to read it thoroughly and complete any actions or paperwork you are responsible for.
- Assistance with completing these important tasks is provided in the “Forms” and “Training” sections of this site. Please allow two to three hours to complete the necessary forms and required training before reporting to work.
Please feel free to contact anyone from IBC HR or OCIO HCO prior to your first day if you have any questions or concerns.
On your first day, you may feel a bit anxious, nervous, intimidated, or pure excitement! We want this day to be as seamless as possible for you and we want you to feel welcome. Here are a few things to note for your first day:
- If your duty station is in the Washington Metropolitan area, please allow for ample travel time and report to the Main Interior Building (MIB) by 9am. Upon your arrival give both your name and the name of your point of contact to the security guard and someone will escort you to the orientation.
- If your duty station is in the Denver area, please report to the Denver Federal Center, Building 53, Entrance E9 by the designated time. Once you arrive at entrance E9, please ring the doorbell and someone will escort you to the orientation.
- If you are a full-time teleworker, our OCIO HCO office will contact you directly either by phone or email to complete the orientation process.
- ‘New Hire Orientation’ will consist of completing additional paperwork; learning about OCIO’s mission and values; and becoming acclimated with the organizational culture and policies. The orientation is a great time to ask any questions you may have or express any concerns.
- When orientation is finished, you will be escorted to the Security Office to receive your government ID and your room key (if in MIB). You will then proceed to your office and your supervisor will arrive promptly to give you further instruction.
- After you have spent the day with your supervisor and meeting your colleagues, OCIO HCO will follow-up with you on any additional questions that you may have.
You have successfully made it through your first week! OCIO HCO will follow-up with you to ensure that you are adjusting well; see if you have any questions or concerns; and get any additional information from you, if needed. Please complete and submit the orientation survey (found in your email inbox) by the end of the week.

At this point, you should be a little more comfortable in your role and carrying out your duties. You will have entered your time in the time and attendance system (Quicktime) and received your first paycheck. Please be sure to look over your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) to ensure accuracy through Employee Express www.employeeexpress.gov.
You have reached the one year mark. What an accomplishment! We are so happy that you have made OCIO your new “home away from home.” Please look out for an email from someone on our leadership team congratulating you on your one year anniversary.
