Deployments--Processing Nodes the Hard Way

Processing nodes can be physical (a server box) or logical (a server cluster acting as one server). If you don't have a CSV file of processing node data, you will need to enter the data manually as described below. Otherwise, you can just import from the file.

Open the Select New Type for All Methods window

On DEAR's menu bar, select "Dictionary/New Definition".

You will get this window:

Select PROCESSING-NODE  Select PROCESSING-NODE

Select "PROCESSING-NODE". Note that this is NOT the same as the “Processing Node” directly above it.

OK  OK

Click "OK". You'll get the following window that lets you name the location.

Name  Name

Give the processing node a name, such as a short description or a web address.

Asset ID  Asset ID

Enter the asset ID if you know it; otherwise enter “Unknown".

Serial number  Serial number

Enter the serial number if you know it; otherwise enter “Unknown".

OK  OK

Click "OK". You'll get the following Dictionary Object window that lets you enter more processing node information.

The Introduction tab has only one field; the Description box shown below. Write a short description of the location there.

The TRM tab is nice-to-have information. It’s helpful to fill it in if you have the information, but it’s not necessary.

Access Data tab  Access Data

The Access Data tab has read-only information; you don’t have to fill in anything on it.

On the second page of the tab, enter any comments in the Comments box, shown below.

The asset ID and serial number you entered on the previous window are already filled in here.

Processing Node Type  Processing Node Type

Enter the type of node; whether it is physical (a server box) or logical (a server cluster acting as one server).

Node Deployment Year  Node Deployment Year

Enter the year the node was deployed.

Node Deployment Month  Node Deployment Month

Enter the month the node was deployed.

Managing Organization  Managing Organization

Click on the Choices button to drag and drop the name of the managing organization. You can read more about the standard buttons used in this box.

Location Node  Location Node

Click on the Choices button to drag and drop the location node (the one you previously entered). You can read more about the standard buttons used in this box.

OK  OK

Click "OK" when you are done with all the tabs.

You are now ready to map the server to a system component instance.
