Memorial Day Message
May 23, 2013
Hi everybody. I just want to, on this eve of Memorial Day weekend, say thank you to all of you for everything that you do for the Department of the Interior. I’ve been out here, there’s a few paint splatters on my face, I’m sorry, didn’t get a chance to take them off, but I’m out with some volunteers from DOI Vets and General Electric Vets painting up the stanchions around this beautiful World War II Memorial while others pull weeds, all in service to the people of this country who’ve given the ultimate sacrifice so that we can all live with the freedoms that we enjoy. So, I want to thank all of you for your service to the Department of the Interior, for the hard work that you do every day, and I’ve enjoyed meeting so many of you as I’ve gone around the country and I look forward to meeting so many more of you. So, I hope you get together with your families, you enjoy these great outdoor spaces. Or, if you’re working all weekend, which many of you will be, I hope you have a great time welcoming many, many people into the lands under our stewardship no matter where they are in this great land. So, thanks very much, enjoy the Memorial Day weekend, and I look forward to meeting you soon.
