ARRA Brings Needed Repair to Thomas Jefferson Memorial

Colin Walsh:
Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act,

the National Park Service is investing $750 million dollars

in our nation's monuments to liberty and treasured landscapes,

including $12.4 million dollars right here to restore the seawall at the Jefferson Memorial.

Philip Sheridan:
To date through the period ending June 30,

This project has created approximately 23 full-time job equivalents,

so we're very happy that, you know,

that the stimulus is doing what it was intended to do

in creating employment for people here in Washington.

Steve Sims:
 The Park Service is fortunate to have the Recovery Act funding to fund this project.

During the initial phases of design and estimates,

we were wondering how we were going to be able to build this project in one phase.

And at one point, we actually split this up into two phases

not knowing where the money was going to come from on the second phase.

so the Recovery Act funding was able to fund the entire project

and actually save us some costs and gain some effeciencies

by constructing this in one time

and we are able to build this whole project without interrupting the public

and disrupting the visitor's experience multiple times.

We'll just do this one time, do it correctly, and do it permanently so it never moves again

and be here for future generations.
