Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced the creation of the Wildlife Hunting and Heritage Conservation Council in a chilly outdoor ceremony on Roosevelt Island in the Potomac River. The council replaces the Sporting Conservation Council.

Ron Tull: Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced the creation of the Wildlife and Hunting Heritage Conservation Council in an outdoor ceremony on Roosevelt Island in the Potomac River.
The new federal advisory council will help promote cooperation between sportsmen and women and state and federal government and replaces the Sporting Conservation Council by expanding membership to include archery, hunting and shooting sports industries.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar: We will ask the council to consider key issues of concern within the wildlife conservation community and assist us in maximizing our conservation and public recreation programs for the benefit of all Americans. The creation of this council is but another chapter in the remarkable legacy of hunter-conservationist in America.
Ron Tull: The setting of the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial was chosen to honor a president who was also a great hunter and conservationist. Secretary Salazar says today's announcement will continue that tradition.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar: All Americans have benefitted from the conservation of America's hunters. It is clear to me that if wildlife conservation is to remain strong in America our nation's hunting tradition must remain strong.
Ron Tull: Secretary Salazar and Ag Secretary Vilsack will advise the council to engage America's youth and get them outdoors.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack: A third of our children in this country today are overweight or obese, a third. They are headed to a lifetime of chronic disease, increased medical expense, lost productivity at work at a time when our country enters the most competitive phase it has been involved and engaged in probably in our lifetime.
Ron Tull: The Wildlife and Heritage Hunting Conservation Council comes under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and will be seeking nominations for the new council through its announcement in the Federal Registry.
