Secretary Jewell joined Senator Jon Tester of Montana for a tour of Glacier National Park this weekend to discuss the economic benefits of outdoor recreation and tourism on public lands, energy development and upholding trust responsibilities to American Indians.
In her first trip to the state as Secretary of the Interior, Jewell joined rangers from Glacier National Park for a tour of the area. “I know that Montanans care deeply about their lands and outdoor heritage, and this state is a leading example of how public-private partnerships can produce strong outcomes for healthy lands and a healthy economy," said Jewell. “People who live near our parks and other public lands know that they are economic engines for their communities,” said Jewell. “For every dollar we invest in our parks, for example, we get $10 in economic activity. That translates into healthier businesses, more jobs, and a better standard of living for everyone.” Photo: DOI
