Secretary Salazar Visits Oil Spill Command Center, Launches Full Review of Offshore Drilling Safety Issues

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano, Department of the Interior (DOI) Secretary Ken Salazar and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson traveled to the Gulf Coast on Friday at the request of President Obama to inspect ongoing operations and interagency coordination in response to the BP Oil Spill. During their visit, Secretary Napolitano, Secretary Salazar and Administrator Jackson conducted an aerial tour of the affected area in the Gulf of Mexico to view BP’s cleanup and containment efforts firsthand and announced a full review of offshore drilling safety issues to be conducted by a new Outer Continental Shelf Safety Board.
