WASHINGTON – As part of the Obama Administration’s commitment to the safe and responsible development of offshore resources, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will travel to Houston, Texas on Wednesday to attend the 2013 Offshore Technology Conference. Secretary Jewell will tour the exhibition floor where she will talk to offshore oil and gas industry stakeholders and see firsthand the current and developing technologies used for offshore exploration and production.
Wednesday’s trip will build upon Jewell’s visit last week to the Gulf of Mexico where she toured an offshore drilling rig and a production platform with a BSEE inspector. The Offshore Technology Conference attracts more than 80,000 attendees each year from more than 110 countries. The conference focuses on the latest trends and technologies for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection.
Following the exhibition floor tour, Jewell will hold a media availability to discuss her commitment to work with industry leaders to ensure safe and environmentally responsible offshore oil and gas operations. Credentialed news media who are registered with the conference are encouraged to RSVP to Jessica Kershaw before 9am, Wednesday, May 8th.
