EL CENTRO, CA—Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director Bob Abbey will visit the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area (Dunes) in the California desert on Sunday to participate in responsible, family-oriented OHV recreation. As part of the Obama Administration’s America’s Great Outdoors initiative, Secretary Salazar and Directory Abbey will highlight the importance of outdoor recreation to our nation’s economy and quality of life. Secretary Salazar and Director Abbey will also attend a youth OHV safety training and meet with family campers and community vendors.
Covering over 160,000 acres of public lands managed by BLM, the Dunes is a popular destination for OHV recreation that attracts anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 visitors on busy holiday weekends.
