WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, July 11, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will travel to New Mexico to highlight important conservation efforts on the Middle Rio Grande in Albuquerque and to execute critical water contracts at Taos Pueblo.

In the morning, Salazar will visit Taos Pueblo with Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Del Laverdure to execute three water contracts as part of the implementation of the historic Taos Pueblo Indian Water Rights Settlement Act, which settled one of the longest-standing water rights cases in New Mexico. Salazar will also join tribal leaders and members of the community on a tour of Taos Pueblo, which is a World Heritage Site, and the Buffalo Pasture.

In the afternoon, Salazar will announce the results of a six-month report on the Middle Rio Grande Conservation Initiative in Albuquerque.
