“Timber prices are down, unemployment in some areas of western Oregon is over 20 percent and the timber industry is desperately trying to find certainty and stability in timber harvest from public lands.  We have a tall and tough task ahead of us.  We will manage these lands again under the Northwest Forest Plan, which helped guide BLM timber sales from 1994 until December, 2008.  Under this management umbrella we must swiftly identify timber sales that can get wood to the mills over the coming months so we can protect jobs and vital timber infrastructure.”
