Secretary Kempthorne Invites Newly Naturalized Citizens to Visit National Parks Free of Charge on September 28, 2008

Washington, D.C. – Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne today invited newly naturalized citizens, sworn in between July 4, 2008 and September 27, 2008 to enter National Parks free of charge on September 28, 2008.

“Our National Parks celebrate the story of America: our history, our heroes and the ideals upon which we build our future,” Kempthorne said. “With this invitation I want to give our newest citizens, those who have chosen to adopt America as their home, a chance to come and experience those pieces of America for themselves.”

The entrance fee waiver has been created in conjunction with National Public Lands Day, September 27, 2008, on which all national public lands are open free of charge to the public. This new fee waiver, just for entrance to National Parks, will create a weekend where new citizens can come and enjoy the beauty, culture and history of their new country free of charge.
