Mrs. Laura Bush to Announce Bipartisan Historic Preservation Legislation at October 31 Capitol Hill Event

WASHINGTON -- Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States, will be joined on Oct. 31 at the Sewall-Belmont House by Members of Congress and other preservation dignitaries in announcing introduction of bipartisan legislation to permanently authorize the Preserve America and Save America’s Treasures programs. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for credentialed media who have registered ahead of time (see “how to cover”), with access closed at 8:15 a.m.

Who: Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States and Honorary Chair of Preserve America and Save America’s Treasures; Rep. Brad Miller (North Carolina) and Rep. Mike Turner (Ohio), co-chairs of the Congressional Historic Preservation Caucus; Sen. Pete Domenici (New Mexico); John L. Nau, III, chairman, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation; Richard Moe, president, National Trust for Historic Preservation; and, officials representing Preserve America designated communities and grantees.

What: This event will formally announce the introduction of bipartisan legislation to permanently authorize the Preserve America and Save America’s Treasures programs, including their associated grant programs for historic preservation and heritage tourism.

When: Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 8:30 a.m. Please note that due to security and staging concerns persons covering or attending the event should be inside and seated within that timeframe. The event is expected to conclude by 10:00 a.m.

Where: The Sewall-Belmont House and Museum, 144 Constitution Avenue, NE, Washington, D.C. Located at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 2nd Street, next to the Hart Senate Office building. The venue is accessible by Metrorail; Union Station red line and Capitol South blue and orange lines.

How to cover: All electronic media/satellite trucks must pre-set by 6:00 a.m. October 31.
Press check-in begins at 7:30 a.m.; Final access is 8:15 a.m. October 31.
