Interior Secretary Gale Norton to Honor Nisqually River Council

(OLYMPIA, WA) Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton will honor 20 years of cooperative conservation in the Nisqually River watershed in an award ceremony.

The Council is among 30 U.S. partnerships to be highlighted at the upcoming White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation to be held in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 29-31.

WHAT: -- Tour of estuarine restoration project along Nisqually River -- Event recognizing Nisqually River Council for their involvement in upcoming White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation
WHO:-- Gale Norton, Secretary of the Interior -- Bill Ruckelshaus, Former Administrator, EPA and Chair, Salmon Recovery Funding Board -- David Troutt, Chairman, Nisqually River Council -- Billy Frank, Jr., Chairman, Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission
WHERE AND WHEN:Thursday, August 25
12:15pm PDT - Media representatives meet at the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge at 100 Brown Farm Road, Olympia, WA (Exit 114 off I-5) to carpool to project site. (TV trucks go directly to project site)
1:00pm PDT - Secretary Norton and media representatives tour project site.
2:30pm PDT - Recognition ceremony and media availability at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge

The Nisqually River Council is a broadly-based coalition of local governments and citizens committed to the protection and enhancement of the Nisqually River watershed. The council seeks to integrate the history, culture, environment and economy of the watershed in its management. A separate citizen committee assures public representation during implementation of the stewardship plan.
