Secretary Norton to Announce Settlement Agreement with Warm Springs Tribe, PGE on Hydropower Project

Plan will Recover Salmon, Steelhead on Deschutes River

 

(WASHINGTON) - On Tuesday, July 13, 2004, Interior Secretary Gale Norton will announce a settlement agreement for the relicensing of the Pelton Round Butte Hydroelectric Project, which is jointly owned by the Consolidated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon and Portland General Electric. The settlement includes a strategic plan for the recovery of salmon and steelhead in the Deschutes River of Central Oregon.

Norton will sign the agreement with Ron Suppah, Chair of the Warm Springs Tribal Council, and Peggy Y. Fowler, president of Portland General Electric (the co-owner of the facility); Rebecca Wodder, president of American Rivers; and other parties to the settlement. The signing ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the Warm Springs Reservation next to the Museum at Warm Springs. Media availabilities will be held before and after the ceremony.
