Secretary Norton to Address Western Governors

(WASHINGTON) -- Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton will deliver a keynote address to the Western Governors Association in Santa Fe, New Mexico tomorrow, emphasizing how vital energy production on public lands can be carried out in ways that safeguard land, water, air and wildlife resources.

Norton will discuss proven methods that minimize the impact of energy production and significantly reduce environmental disturbance through the use of Best Management Practices. The Secretary will also present a 4C's Award to recognize initiatives that showcase responsible energy development.

She will speak at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the Plenary Session of the Western Governors Association annual meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The session will be held in the Anasazi Room of the El Dorado Hotel, 309 W. San Francisco Street.
