April 23, in Celebration of National Park Week

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-- Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton will tour the Cliff House, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Friday, April 23, 2004. The tour is part of the Secretary's weeklong visit to national parks, highlighting the celebration of National Park Week, April 17-24.

The National Park Service has almost completed a sweeping renovation of the structure, which focuses on historic preservation of the 1909 core building, full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, improved visitor safety, and seismic and other building code improvements.

Secretary Norton will observe firsthand the progress the National Park Service has made on the Cliff House rehabilitation. The historic renovation is a $17.1 million redesign effort and is about 85 percent complete. The grand opening for this San Francisco icon is scheduled for August 2004.
