Secretary Norton to Announce $14 Million in Wildlife Conservation Grants to Tribes

Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton will announce nearly $14 million in grants to help 60 federally recognized Indian tribes conserve and recover endangered, threatened and at-risk species and other wildlife on tribal lands in 23 states.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is awarding the grants under two new programs, the Tribal Landowner Incentive Program and Tribal Wildlife Grant Program. These programs are similar to cost-share programs recently developed by the department to assist states, local communities, private landowners and other partners undertake wildlife conservation projects.

The projects supported by the grants are in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Louisiana, California, Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
